Dear LWS
Parents & Guardians:
RE: LWS
Covid 19 School Operation Plan
On Thursday, March 26th, the LWS Board held a special meeting to adopt and approve the following LWS COVID 19 School Operation Plan.
Little
Wound School campus will remain closed from March 30, 2020 - May 1, 2020 to
continue to promote social distancing from the Covid 19 pandemic. Keep in
mind this date could possibly be extended.
Little
Wound School will continue to provide food service via grab-and-go breakfast
& lunch bags for students living in Kyle, Monday through Friday from 11:00
am-12:30 pm, unless there is a health emergency or we are ordered by Oglala
Sioux Tribe to cease all such operations (see OST Ord. No. 20-18). Students
on our regular bus routes will continue to have grab-and-go breakfast &
lunch bags delivered. Please direct any food delivery concerns to
Transportation Manager, Bill Clifford at
605-441-7296 or email: [email protected].
The LWS Board has authorized the purchase of mobile-wifi-device for all enrolled students 6th-12th grade. These mobile-wifi-devices are expected to be distributed to students ASAP depending on delivery from vendors. This device will have a built in AT&T data plan which will be your child’s point of contact with their teachers. The utilization of this device will be to increase the enrichment of our education services. Please keep in mind that this transition process will require implementation of LWS student gmail accounts that will need parent authorization, student/parent usage agreements and the logistics of getting 6th-12grade students connected. Please be patient as we attempt to roll this tool out as quickly as possible. Students in grades K-5th grade will utilize access to hard copy packets and individual interaction with designated teachers.
Beginning
March 30th to April 2nd teachers will begin the process of providing
supplemental written packets, access to created LWS gmail accounts and access
into google classrooms. If you are unable to connect to any online
educational resources our teachers will provide you individual hard copy
supplemental educational material. It is
our goal to have all students receiving supplemental material either online or
hard copy resources by Friday, April 3rd and to get 6th-12th grade students
online with the mobile-wifi-device by the week of April 6-11, 2020.
Please keep in mind the distribution of devices is dependent on the timely
delivery from the vendor.
Required
School Minutes, Attendance, Grading, and Graduation:
The
specific details on how LWS will move forward on these processes is dependent
on the Bureau of Indian Education and the State of South Dakota to waive
specific regulations. Once we have received guidance from these agencies
parents will be notified. Please understand the LWS administration and
teachers will not penalize students for the unfortunate consequences of staying
safe and complying with CDC social distancing requirements of this Covid 19
pandemic and national emergency. LWS
will do everything in our ability to provide enrichment education opportunities
and not penalize our students. I will keep all stakeholders posted as
more information is made available.
In
closing, keep in mind that the LWS Covid 19 School Operation Plan is a working
plan that is subject to change and modified. We will keep you posted on
any changes to our outlined plan stated in this letter.
Respectfully,
Charles
Cuny
Superintendent
