Homecoming Week 2024: A Celebration of Community and Spirit
Homecoming Week, held from September 16 to 19, was a celebration filled with activities that brought together students, staff, and the community. Kicking off the festivities was a lively day dedicated to "Roc Your Mocs," where students showcased their cultural pride by wearing ribbon shirts and skirts, adorned with beautiful braids and beads. The day concluded with a spirited K-12 social dance, setting a joyful tone for the week ahead.
Tuesday was marked by a role reversal, as students dressed as teachers and teachers donned student attire. This playful switch created a fun atmosphere across campus. Wednesday featured colorful clowns roaming the grounds, adding a whimsical touch to the day. Later the Homecoming coronation crowned our 2024 Homecoming royalty: congratulations to Queen Briley, King Cashus, Princess Chloe, and Prince Dylen! The middle school and elementary royalty included Marty, Ryanna, Tayla, and Sammuel.
The highlight of the week was game day, which commenced with a festive parade. Floats from both school and community organizations entertained spectators, offering goodies and showcasing school spirit. High school students participated in a field day prior to the game that evening filled with various activities, including carnival booths offering games and prizes. A popular "Pie Your Teacher" fundraiser supported the Student Council and added to the fun.
A pep rally was held ahead of the big game against McLaughlin. Fans filled the bleachers to watched an impressive performance by the Mustangs, who secured a big victory with a score of 50-0. A special shout-out to the players and the 18 cheerleaders whose enthusiasm propelled the team to success! LWS alumni cheerleaders entertained spectators by joining cheerleaders in a cheer!
Other Homecoming highlights included LWS administration hosting the tailgate party featuring hot dogs, chips, cookies, and drinks, where spectators from both teams gathered to celebrate camaraderie and school spirit.
A big thank you goes to the high school Student Council for planning most of the homecoming activities and to the Lakota Studies Department for their invaluable assistance with the social dance. The week was a testament to the strength and unity of our school community, leaving everyone looking forward to the next celebration!
